Showing CompassionA doubleshot of business news espresso with extra froth
Consider the fact that, statistically, two of every three Americans are overweight. We are a gluttonous nation. And yet, a child dies of starvation somewhere in the world (though typically not here) every four seconds. Unfortunately, many people won’t act upon such sobering statistics and try to make a difference because they don’t believe that they truly can. What’s one person to such a monstrous global epidemic? But those in positions of leadership have the resources to really start something. Business owners have the ability to donate to charity, whether it be product, time or money. And, the truth remains that, if your staff sees you showing compassion to this nation and others, they are more likely to get on board for the same or a similar cause. It would be even easier to get others involved if you, as a leader and a boss, organized community service projects for your employees, say, once a month. Activities such as working at the local food shelter, putting together care packages for our troops overseas, even sponsoring a child in a poverty stricken country as a group, would help to show your staff just how rewarding showing compassion to others can be, both to them and those they are helping. It doesn’t stop in the work place though. I strongly believe that it’s a great idea to get involved in the community as a family as well. Start your children off young and they will always be community minded. And, not only will participating help others, but it will strengthen your family bound as well, when you work together to accomplish something for the good of man. So, if you’re not already involved, make the time in your schedule to make a difference in the world. And help guide others who are under your authority and look up to you to make the same wise choice. The end result makes it all worth while.
